What is machinima?
Quite simply, a machinima is a movie made in a 3D gaming platform. Since it was coined in ’97, by Hugh Hancock, the term has evolved and branched off. Some prefer to call it Real-time Animation, while others consider machinima made in programs like Moviestorm to be Anymation.
How do you make machinima?
Everyone has a different process, but I listen to the client’s needs and provide a customized service for them. Sometimes they have a script, and other times they have a very basic idea that they need conceptualized. From there, I may use their existing set, find one suitable for them, or contract a professional builder on their behalf. After the script and set are squared away, I use a variety of avatars to act out a scene. Once filming for the scene is completed, I work closely with the client to edit the project to their satisfaction!
What are the advantages of machinima?
I personally feel that there are too many to list, but I’ll try!
